The right cleaning method depends on the blind’s material, fabric coating and mechanism. Start with the care instructions supplied with your blind. This guide explains what to consider before treating a mark or applying water to an unfamiliar surface.

Begin with dust, not detergent

Use a soft, clean duster or another dry method approved for the product. Work gently and support delicate slats or fabric. Removing loose dust first can avoid rubbing it into the surface during spot cleaning.

Test any permitted cleaning method in an inconspicuous place. If you do not know the product or fabric, ask for advice before using chemicals, steam or a wet cleaning method.

Roller and sunscreen fabrics

For roller blinds, check whether the selected fabric permits spot cleaning. Some coatings can mark, change appearance or be damaged by moisture and rubbing. A cleaning method suitable for one sunscreen is not automatically suitable for a blockout backing.

Do not put a roller blind in a washing machine or soak it as a default method. Keep water away from controls, motors and the roller assembly. If a permitted spot treatment dampens the fabric, follow the drying instructions before rolling it away.

Wooden Venetian blinds

Dust timber slats gently, supporting them as you work. Avoid soaking or saturating wood. Do not use furniture oils, solvent cleaners or essential oils without approval for the actual finish.

If condensation or a mark has affected the finish, photograph it and ask for product-specific advice. Repeated scrubbing can make the area look worse.

PVC and aluminium slats

On PVC or aluminium blinds, follow the supplied instructions for wiping the slats. Support thin aluminium to avoid bending it and avoid abrasive pads that can damage the finish.

An easy-care slat does not mean the headrail and mechanism can be immersed. Dust these areas carefully and stop if the blind is no longer operating smoothly.

When cleaning is not the answer

Frayed controls, bent parts, damaged coatings and persistent operating problems need assessment rather than stronger cleaning. Keep a photo of the issue and the product details, then contact the team for guidance.
