Accurate measurements are the starting point for a blind that fits and operates properly. Use this guide to prepare for a conversation with Impact Blinds, and confirm the product-specific measuring method before placing your order.

Start with the right information

Use a metal tape measure and record dimensions in millimetres. Label every window by room and record width and drop separately. Measure the opening itself rather than copying the size of an old blind.

Inside fit or face fit?

An inside fit places the blind within the recess. Check depth, handles, opening sashes and whether the frame is square. A face fit sits outside the recess and needs suitable mounting space and coverage around the opening.

Do not make your own manufacturing deductions. For face fitting, confirm the overlap and finished size with our team instead of adding the same allowance to every window. Different products and frames need different treatment.

Record measurements for the chosen blind

For Venetians, our measuring sheet asks for width and drop readings at several positions so differences in the opening can be identified. For roller, honeycomb and zebra blinds, the sheet uses the top width and a central drop. For vertical blinds, it identifies the top width and multiple drop readings.

Record the individual measurements as well as the room name, and let us confirm which readings should determine the order. If the frame is uneven, tiled or partly obstructed, arrange advice before relying on a single measurement.

Check operation and installation

Allow clearance for handles, doors, furniture and the raised or stacked blind. Decide which side should carry a manual control, or discuss power access if you are considering motorisation.

Mounting surfaces and fixings vary. Follow the instructions supplied for the exact product and arrange professional help when the fixing position or substrate is uncertain. Operating cords and chains must be installed and used with the specified safety devices; keep them away from children.
